Natural play space - Allfarthing Primary 

With its mix of mature trees, the outdoor playscape at this school was a wonderful opportunity to provide a space for children, where they can play creatively and interact with their environment: giving free rein to their imaginations and enabling them to build worlds of their own.

 

Whilst a framework to facilitate this play is required, it is not prescriptive in any way. Different interlinked areas have suggested functions but it’s up to the children how they interpret and use them.

Creating an exciting and versatile space – for all year groups - and taking a positive approach to risk, was the mission here. This will be a space where children can explore their world through play: having adventures, exploring, running, climbing, collecting treasures, building dens, making narratives, connecting with nature and going wherever their imaginations can take them.
